Barn and Working Cats
Some kitties come to Saved by Zade unable to adapt to indoor life. They may have been born outside with little to no human contact, or they may just prefer not interacting with humans. Saved by Zade’s Barn/Working Cat program seeks to place these kitties in barns and workshops across the state of Michigan. We believe that these kitties deserve a happy life, and that they can be placed with families who value them as much as we do.
Why adopt a barn/working cat? This can be mutually beneficial relationship – you will be saving the life of a healthy kitty and they in return will help keep those small, pesky rodents off your property!
These kitties are all spayed or neutered and have received age-appropriate vaccinations. Saved by Zade adopts barn kitties out in groups of 2 or more as they are more likely to stick around their new home if they have a friend. They will also keep each other company and huddle together for warmth in cold weather.
The requirements for adopting barn/working kitties are an acclimation period of 4 to 6 weeks in an extra large dog crate or fully enclosed structure along with food and water given daily, safety, and shelter throughout the entire year.
This is not a relocation program – in as many cases as possible, community kitties should be returned to the locations where they were trapped as often this is the only home they have ever known and where they will be happiest. Sometimes, however, these locations are unsafe for return. In those special cases, Saved by Zade seeks placement through our Barn/Working Cat Program.
